Think about your best listener who says nice things to you after a church service or recital.
Is he a man or a woman? What is his age, education and occupation? Is he married or single? What things does he like and dislike? What are his dreams, hopes, and fears? What keeps him awake at night? What kind of musical, cultural, and religious experiences did he have before he met you? What kind of change would you like to see in him?
Answering these questions is essential, if you want to find music for your listeners as opposed to find listeners for your music.
