Imagining that today might be the last day we live is a powerful way to focus our thoughts and deeds - everything that is not important and trivial fades away. In this context saying "I'm not ready for this" is a lousy excuse.
It's much better to think: "what opportunity shouldn't I miss today?"
(And of course give a smile and thank a person whom to do so we constantly postpone.)
