Ad Patres | Bronius Kutavičius (with paintings of M.K. Čiurlionis) | Vilnius St. Casimir's Church
It's Holy Week and Vidas and I think this piece will be quite appropriate to share it now. It's called Ad Patres - a sonata for two organists (1983) by Bronius Kutavičius (1932-2021). This is one of the most important 20th century organ works by a Lithuanian composer and it is based on the cycle of 7 paintings "Funeral Symphony" by Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis (1875-1911) who was the most famous artist/composer of the 20th century in Lithuania. We included these paintings in the video so that you could match the music with the artwork. It was recorded live during our recent recital at Vilnius St. Casimir's church on the Oberlinger organ. Thanks to Renata Marcinkutė Lesieur for invitation! Hope you will enjoy it!
