John from Australia asks if it's OK to memorize your improvisations? If you look at my earliest two improvisations on YouTube ("Wie soll ich dich empfangen" and "Meinen Jesum lass' ich nicht"), you will see that they sound like memorized compositions which they are. We all have been there. I guess the goal is to keep doing it long enough so that you will be able to start coming up with new ideas WHILE playing. As the saying goes, "if you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything". PS I've been working on a new store for Secrets of Organ Playing - with a better customer's experience. It is powered by Shopify platform. You can check it out here (I apologize for the typo in the previous email). |
