Oh, how scary it is to forge your own path in organ playing! The instinct is to go with the flow, to do what has been done before, to play what your role models are playing only better. Your future depends on it. And yet... You cannot hope to be relevant in this day and age if you compare your path with anybody else's, if you measure your success against your competition. You must venture into the territory of the unknown. Things might not work. Your listeners might be bored. Your pastor might be offended. Only this way you will find out where are the boundaries of what's possible. Only this way you will find out what does it take to make art that changes people for the better. Compete with yourself.
