I have recently read a study about the famous Harlem Village Academies (HVA) that they rank #1 in college enrollment among all non-selective high schools in NYC. Their results are spectacular for several years straight – in 2008 they scored 100 % proficiency on math exam for eighth grade and since 2011 - 98 % proficiency in all exams required for graduation.
One of the many ways they accomplished such results is through reading. They teach kids to love reading and they read 1 book every week. 52 books a year. More than 400 throughout the time they study at HVA. Reading that many books surely changes people. Just a thought: What kind of change we could see in an organist after 8 years if he/she sight-read 1 organ collection per week?
