Some writers use whatever words they have at their arsenal to tell a story. It's safe, proven, and guaranteed to work. Others sometimes make up words which help express their ideas better. This gives them spark and originality.
Some musicians choose to create a musical story out of musical language somebody else created. But most of the masters you and I respect and admire chose to risk being misunderstood and criticized for finding their own voice. Some people live their lives based on the standards, rules, and wishes of those around them, never venturing into the territory of what might not work. Yet there are a few among us who dare to raise the standards and give a sense of direction to those who want to follow them. Invent words, invent music, invent life. That's why we are here for.
