Yesterday Jacques van Oortmerssen (65), a Dutch master organist and pedagogue suddenly passed away. He consoled so many souls of innumerable number of people with his playing and teaching. He will remain an immortal example to us all. My deepest condolences to his family. Let's hope he is in a better place now. I met him teaching at Goteborg, Sweden and in Alkmaar, the Netherlands where he demonstrated his lovely organ at the Wallonian Church in Amsterdam. Performed on historical instruments, his CD recordings were the first complete Bach organ works series I owned. He is widely admired by his students and colleagues worldwide. Rest in peace, Jacques.
