That's our inner dragon speaking. He wants us to believe that we have no choice. He wants us to believe that all we want is safety, reproduction, and revenge. He uses all his cunning and diabolical powers to convince us that we have no chance to succeed, no chance to make art that matters, no chance to be compassionate and laser-focused at what we set out to accomplish.
Do we give in to this voice? Do we sacrifice a future when we can become our better selves in exchange of apparent status quo, in exchange of to be liked by our friends and family just the way we are (today)? I'm not buying that for a minute. Every one of us is capable of making a difference, every one of us is capable to matter, every one of us is capable of looking someone in the eye and saying: "This is what I'm making. Share it." Some people don't want to rise above mediocrity and I get that. But to say that "I'm not of generous nature" is a classic example of hiding. I think we can do better than that.
