Have the thought of quitting playing the organ ever crossed your mind?
Perhaps you feel overworked and underappreciated. Simply exhausted. It's not worth it.
No more Bach, no more improvisation or hymn playing. No more masters of old and new?
Your life would be just what other responsibilities you have right now. Perhaps 9-5 job. Perhaps family to take care of. Perhaps a TV to marinate in front of in the evenings.
How would that feel?
On the one hand yes, you won't have to push yourself over things like pedaling, articulation, difficult registration changes, choices of what to play next.
But on the other hand, your life would become quite grey. Dull maybe. Shallow somehow. Like that dog chained to guard the motorboat.
If you trully love playing the organ, you would feel empty and used. Nothing to turn to when you need to recharge.
I don't think organ playing is a choice for us.
Could you imagine a nightingale choosing not to sing?
