It all started with my experiments with the whole tone mode during the music theory class for extremely motivated 9th grade students I taught at school. I couple of weeks ago I created a piece for the organ and showed it to my class. A couple of kids wanted to play it so I made an arrangement for flute and piano.
Then the entire class became envious of these two students and asked me to arrange it for all of them so that they could play it during a concert at our school. There were a few more students in our class which had to be left out. I may have to compose something specifically for them in the future.
So anyway, I hope you will enjoy my (not so little) experiment for 7 instruments. By the way, the central section is written using the fugato technique with imitations in the blues mode. Today when kids listened to this section, they seemed especially happy with it.
Of course, as you will notice there will be a fair amount of work for the tympani, the harp and the marimba player. I may have to do some changes to the score after they start rehearsing.
