Samuel Scheidt (1587-1654), one of the most outstanding North German students of the great Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck from Amsterdam is best known for his Tabulatura Nova (1624). Scheidt was a musical director of the 3 churches in the town of Halle, Northern Germany. Interestingly, his music is a key to understanding Sweelinck's works also because unlike any other Sweelinck's student, Scheidt followed his teachings to the letter.
Modus Pleno Organo Pedaliter: Benedicamus is a magnificent work, full of grandeur, solemnity, and demonstrates the manner which was common practice at that time to play preludes in 6 parts using both feet at the same time.
